We are happy to announce that Tomi and Sampo received their Master Builder (Master Luthier) degree on 31 May 2011. Tomi in his special field: modern/metal guitar and visuality for 6-9 strings. Sampo in his special field: modern basses and low tunes for 4-6 strings.

We are also more than happy to introduce our new worker Jaakko Bask who has just joined our team. During his studies at Ikaalinen College of Crafts and Design/ Guitar Making Department, he worked for us as a trainee. After he graduated in Spring 2011, we asked him to stay and continue his important work in our company. Jaakko's strong Northern craftsman attitude, his ambition to make our modern guitars and to develop his skills regarding special shapes and finishes are values which you can't buy with money. Nor can you learn it. You have to live it! Welcome Jaakko.

Some cool news about our new product developments: We are currently preparing a completely new MASTER SERIES product line with new features, hardware, and wood selection, such as Swamp Ash and Korina (Limba), as standard body and neck options.

This year has been really important for us. The Halti model - "our work of years" - was brought into production and was officially introduced at the Frankfurt Musikmesse 2011. This year will be also a historical one for us, because in a month, we, the builders, will officially receive a Master Builder degree.

The whole degree made us look back to our personal histories, to the work we have done. Personally, I saw a really stony and demanding road in creating a metal guitar history for the country where Heavy Metal is mainstream music, FINLAND. But I also saw something interesting in testing and developing new and better innovations for one of the most demanding music styles of today, METAL! Now, I see how important this work has been, and I am happy to introduce one part of my personal inspiration and some guitar history which made me want to design and build the new Railo Classic - my personal tribute to an original which saw the first light of day in the late 1950s.

Some of you might know of or remember that part of history which started in the late '50s when the very first futuristic and experimental guitar shapes, including the legendary Flying V, were introduced. In many ways, they were ahead of their time and therefore didn't get much attention from mainstream players. Well, as everybody knows, this was just the beginning. Somehow, I see a part of our history there. I often say: "Ever since I started building guitars, I have asked myself why everyone should follow the old standards when, in fact, they don't go well together anymore with today's musical demands." So I truly understand why those new-wave experimantal guitar styles didn't get much attention first. Well, in the '70s, everything changed; the whole world woke up from its own narrow-mindedness and started to cross boundaries. A new wave of music, especially harder styles and metal, started to take shape and make music history. At the same time, the legendary Flying V found its place in the Heavy Metal scene and the rest is history...

The Railo Classic model takes you back to that time when the very first experimental guitar styles and shapes were being seen in the guitar market. The Railo model nails together those golden historical times and the modern standard which we have set for our guitars. -Tomi

Hi everybody!
We just got back from the greatest show ever at the Frankfurt Musikmesse 6-9. April 2011! Once again, we introduced some cool, mind-blowing guitars, featuring new and innovative ideas. Our HALTI model, the combination of a classic style image and soloist style playability, got huge attention every day, because of the revolutionary idea behind it. And those showcases: two hand-painted Routa KARELIA axes, a supercool 6-stringed "low-tune" KURU bass, and a stunning neck-thru Kaira featuring a deep-red MARBELIZED image and, of course, a golden Original Floyd Rose. Thanks a lot for the great feedback and the words of praise regarding our innovative work with better constructions, including the most visual and best quality craftmanship ever seen...Well, that's something we stand for!! We also introduced a Kaira model with new "green" NFC (Natural Fiber Composite) fingerboard material, and I'm proud to say that we are one of the first ones in Europe to use this material, particularly in the heavymetal guitar business, who wish to consider the environment in this industry.
We also had the very first Kaira model with an UNITREM tremolo system; the inventor Seppo Silaste himself will later introduce it in our video. We have closely collaborated with him regarding these new tremolo systems, and some time ago, I gave him the task to design an easy locking system for a Floyd Rose tremolo (locking needed with EVH D-tuna). As soon as we get it, it will be added to our guitars. We had many famous visitors and players, including Jeff Loomis(Nevermore), and lots of fans from all around Europe coming to our booth. We also talked to other great builders who make important work, and of course, appreciated YOUR support, dear fans and customers. Our booth was loaded with a cool set of Palmer- and LD-amps, and our guitars were also showcased in the Adam Hall booth...We all had such a great show together. New videos about the show will follow soon, so stay tuned.

And just some artist news: If you haven't seen yet, Samuli Federley's Reversion can be seen on the legendary Rusty Cooley's GUITAR ASYLUM TV. Samuli plays our super cool 8-stringed Kaira model, which includes LED's, 30 frets, a Kahler tremolo, Lundgren pickups and many other details.

I had only one mission: to put together a classical LP style guitar with modern soloist style options, which features a 25,5" scale and 24 frets. I've always said that I love neck-thru guitars.

Well, with this guitar I wanted to keep a glued neck construction, but in my opinion, the original set-neck construction is not trustworthy. I didn't want to have any of the typical problems which different wood variations and their grains might cause under the fingerboard or in the neckjoint. So I designed a completely new Amfisound SET-LOCK construction, which features a long and lockable neckjoint. This new super-stable and revolutionarily-shaped neckjoint changes the whole construction and makes the model feel like a superfast soloist guitar - similar to our Kaira which has easy playability on the entire fingerboard area! 

And that is not all, the neckjoint is still in the 16th fret, as usually in these type of guitars!  A beautiful carved top and a classical look - these little respectable standards were also really important points when designing this model. We are happy to work together with the latest rising star on the horizon, singer and bassplayer Mikko Pohjola. He's a new Finnish talent with a long musical history in many bands and projects.

His first single "Paikkani Tiedän" has been played on the radio channels all over Finland. The brand new album which is out now was recorded with our fretless Kuru Arcticia bass.

I have always been a big fan of neck-thru guitars...they just have something, the sound, stability, one package full of energy! But over the years I have tried to find out what are actually the weak features of this construction, when using it in metal music. My policy in guitar designing is to see the reality without any detour or other "improve our market" -strategy behind. If you want to make something better, you first have to dig out the basics.

In 2003, I designed our very first Routa model. Some history here: Actually, the original project name for this model was "Vulgar series" :). My simple goal was to start building conservative and better neck-thru guitars!...and I am speaking about the actual construction and shape, not about the woods which anybody can buy, glue together, drop some color and impress people with their beauty. First of all, the important basics one needs to know: A long stick plays smoother and has a lower sound. A short stick has less sustain, but better attack, and it also reacts much faster. Secondly, Metal music has changed a lot since the '80s. New styles with super fast guitar riffs and low tunes have created completely new demands for today's metal guitar. Somebody out there might already get my point: Basically, attack, clarity, sustain and ultimate playability should be in the same construction!

Then comes the wood with which we can achieve all the different sound variations and a beautiful image. And still, there is the visuality, including hand-colored and painted details, which go together with the music and the image of the player. All this has to be included into the package, too, but that is another story... This is our philosophy which we follow in constructing, designing and building better and especially meaningful guitars.

Tuomas Saukkonen, multi-instrumentalist, the man behind hundreds of projects, the Finnish Metal Awards "Best player of the year"-winner and the owner of a few Amfisound custom guitars! We are happy to introduce his second guitar Routa Baritone with super matt finish and a simple, but still stunning, impressive image. Tuomas himself described it like this: "I can't say how good it is to play - the sound, the clarity in the low tunes and the visuality. Nothing in this guitar could be made better". Once again, we want to thank Tuomas for these words of praise. Here also some news about his next project, which will include even more frozen North;)...

I have always wanted to keep our guitars updated for today's demands. This also means thinking about what kind of world we leave to our kids. This time I want to introduce you to our latest motive: save this planet!

I am proud to introduce a completely new and "green" fingerboard material for our guitars. We have tested the material almost one year now and I am really satisfied with the results. The best thing is that it has been invented in Finland and is produced here with a serious philosophy about a better future. It will soon be available for all of our 6-stringed guitars!

The rainforests are shrinking every day, but what can a little guitar company do about this!?Everybody understands that it's really hard to change the product line in big factories. But for the little companies it is possible! The biggest part in making this work lies with you, our dear customers.

I will bring the very first Kaira prototype which features this new material to the Frankfurt Musikmesse held in Frankfurt, Germany, 6.- 9. April 2011.
